Sometimes, the most meaningful and emotional travel experiences are the result of a chance meeting.
To make a long story short...while waiting for a bus in Blantyre, Malawi I met a local Pastor who was headed in the same direction as I. The bus never showed up and we spent a few hours waiting and talking before finding another means of transport. The next day, Pastor Eric took me with him to an orphanage in a small village across the border in Mozambique. Eric is afilliated with this orphanage and visists a few times a year. To get there we had to ride bicycles to the river crossing and then load everything onto a dugout canoe. The Chief was so happy to have a visitor, he insisted that I return the following day. I will be sending a stack of photos to Eric and he will bring them back to the village. The 2 days I spent there were incredibly emotional. I'll post more pictures from there in the future. Still glinting with the hope and joy held in the small things no one thinks about." Any Hope? by ~dmack |
